BDMS Assist Thailand To Fight Covid-19.

According to the latest statistics released by the world real-time statistics website (worldometers.info) on May 14, the average number of deaths per million people infected by the novel coronavirus is 38.4, the number in the United States is 258,  in the United Kingdom is 495,  in Italy 514, 3 in China, 4 in Singapore, and only 0.8 in Thailand. It is one of the countries with the lowest number of deaths from novel coronavirus infection per million people in the world.

The Bureau of Disease Control of Thailand's Ministry of Health stated that with the reduction of new cases, the situation of  epidemic in Thailand is improving. According to the report on May 14, 2020, there were totally 3,018 cases in Thailand, and the number ranked 66th in the world. Among them, 56 deaths, 0.8 deaths per million people, ranked 132th in the world. 2850 cases have been cured, the cure rate reached 92.74%, ranking 7th in the world. Compared with the global average, the mortality rate of Covid-19 in Thailand is positive, which shows that Thailand’s high-quality medical resources have created good treatment effects. In addition, according to death statistics, on the basis of age group, male patients have four times  the risk of dying of Covid-19 than females. The mortality rate of patients over 70 years old is the highest, 12.1%, and the mortality rate of patients between 50 and 59 years is 4%, for patients from 60 to 69 years is 3.7%, while the lowest risk population is from 20 to 29 years old, with a mortality rate of only 0.2%. Among deaths, 41% of patients suffer from diabetes, 36% suffer from hypertension, 18% suffer from hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) and 14% suffer from heart disease, so some patients actually die from chronic diseases. Therefore, the best way to prevent infection of Covid-19 is to take preventive measures to protect yourself from infection, and seek medical diagnosis immediately when related symptoms appear.

At the same time, the Thai medical system is fully prepared to receive patients with novel coronavirus. Thailand has 10,000 ventilators, 5000 ICU beds, and 93 RT-PCR testing laboratories for patients. It has continuously improved medical facilities and technologies to provide patients effective treatments. In addition to the frontline medical staff, there are still more than 1 million rural health service volunteers nationwide, including 15,000 volunteers in Bangkok, with an average of one volunteer for every 10 households. Thanks to the efforts of these "Heroes in Gray Dress" all over the country, the health of people has been guaranteed. They effectively prevent the masses from gathering in hospitals, and reduce the risk of cluster infection.

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), as a world-class medical group leader, has increased laboratory testing effort during the outbreak, which has played a vital role in the treatment of patients and the disease control. BDMS is applying multiple test method like RT-PCR , an important standard for definitive diagnosis, and the IgM and IgG antibody screening method, detecting the immune response after infection. This method can determinate the result within about 5 to 10 days after infection, and can be used in combination with RT-PCR assay  to Improve the sensitivity of test in just 30 minutes.

In order to cope with the challenges brought by Covid-19, BDMS has created a new and effective diagnosis and treatment system. Samitivej Hospital Group and Bangkok Hospital Group under BDMS innovatively use "Tytocare" basic health testing equipment to strongly support the online consultation system to ensure that patients can be diagnosed and treated as usual, meanwhile to avoid close contact between doctors and patients. Those patients waiting for test results in hospitals and suspected cases can monitor themselves at home, reducing the use of limited medical and public health resources, and try their best to make patients receive the best health care.

"Tytocare" is a combination of portable basic health testing equipment that can measure body temperature with an infrared thermometer and examine the lungs and heart through auscultation and sound transmission equipment. The image and video system allows doctors to complete the online diagnosis of patient ’s ears, throat and skin. The "Tytocare" device is designed for patient self-use and has received double certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Thai Food and Drug Administration.

N-Health (National Healthcare System Co., Ltd), a medical service management company under BDMS, introduced "Healthy Robot" for the group to assist medical staff. According to Dr. Niwat Intarawian, deputy director of Bangkok Hospital, after the outbreak of coronavirus in Thailand, Bangkok Hospital Headquarter, as the group’s first hospital using the robot, applies medical innovations to the health care system and enable "Healthy Robot" to provide services to high-risk patients, reducing direct contact to prevent virus transmission. "Healthy Robot" takes the place of medical staff to deliver medicines, medical supplies, food, water and other items to patients, which also helps reduce the risk of epidemic transmission. Through the monitoring and communication programs installed on the robot, doctors and patients can communicate in a timely and effective manner, and patients’ relatives and friends can also communicate with patients through the screen to reduce the anxiety and increase their confidence during the treatment.

Regarding the screening of high-risk patients, Somchintana Iamsanang, director of the emergency department of Bangkok Hospital, revealed that all patients are required to be examined at each registration office, and high-risk patients are guided to designated service area with air circulation system after asking about travel history, fever and respiratory symptoms. The medical staff will measure the body temperature for them, and evaluate them according to the standards of the disease department. If the patient is at risk of infection, their secretions must be tested. The patients will receive health care services in a specific isolation area, and wait for the test results there. In addition to the care and treatment by medical staff, we have enabled "Health Robot" to provide other services and minimize contact at different stages.

As a leading world-renowned medical network, BDMS cooperates with partners from various regions to provide high quality medical services to local and international patients. So far, various experts and scholars attend have attended a series of webinars organized by BDMS to discuss about how to deal with the Covid-19, medical services for Thai citizens and foreign residents in Thailand during this period, as well as the latest and most cutting-edge information in Thailand. We are doing the best to provide all patients with the first-class health security and treatment service.
