Dato Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed


Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed commenced his career as Medical Officer in Penang General Hospital in 1979. He acquired his Masters degree in General Surgery from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1988. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed commenced training in Urology immediately after qualification, at the Institute of Urology and Nephrology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He was awarded the Commonwealth Fellowship to train in all aspects of Urology at the Bristol Institute of Urology, United Kingdom in 1990.

Upon his return to Malaysia, Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed was given the task of setting up the Department of Urology at Hospital Pulau Pinang and served as the Head of Department until 1997. He was then transferred as Senior Consultant Urologist to the Department of Urology, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and was appointed as the Head of Department of Urology, HKL, since September 2000.

Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed helped in establishing the Board of Urology and served as Chairman of the Board since the year 2000. The Board of Urology has developed a structured 4-year program to train Urologists in Malaysia. More than 35 urologists have undergone training under him in Malaysia. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed was the Adjunct Professor of Urology at University Kebangsaan Malaysia since 2000 and is Adjunct Professor of Surgery at UiTM since 2005.

He is well recognized locally and internationally amongst his peers. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed served as President of the Malaysian Urological Association from 2000 to 2004, and as President of the Urological Association of Asia from 2002-2004. He is the President of the Malaysian Urological Foundation since 1999. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed has been Organizing Chairman for more than 10 International Conferences in Urology, has served on various Committees in the Ministry of Health, and was a Member of the Steering Committee of the World Health Organization for 3 years on International Consultation and new developments in Prostate Cancer and Prostate Disease. He is a founder Member of the Asian Society of Female Urology.

Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed's special interests are Prostate Disease, Prostate Cancer, and Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology. He pioneered and served as Director of the Robotic Surgery Program in the Ministry of Health and was instrumental in successfully establishing Robotic Surgery in Malaysia. He has done over 350 robotic surgeries over the last 6 years and has conducted workshops and International Conferences with the Vattikutti Institute of Urology, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, U.S. with the team led by Dr. Mani Menon, who is the pioneer in Robotic Surgery in Urology. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed is proficient in all core and specialized procedures in Urology, which include: Endourology, Female Urology, Paediatric Urology, Reconstructive Urology, Uro-oncology, Laparoscopic surgery, and Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology. He has done over 100 renal transplantations at HKL. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed is credentialed to do all specialized procedures in Urology.

He has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and serves as the Editor for Medical tribune and the World Journal of Robotic Surgery. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed has presented over 74 papers in both local and International Conferences. He was an Invited Speaker at the International Robotic Urology Symposium 2006, Detroit, U.S., and the World Robotic Urology Conference at Ohio State University, U.S. He has written over 25 newspaper articles addressing different topics ranging from Prostate diseases, Impotence, Incontinence, Renal Stones, and Robotic surgery.

Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed implemented the annual Prostate Awareness Week in Malaysia since 1998, and has successfully conducted the program in different states throughout Malaysia. In 2007, this program was carried out in Selangor and over 3000 patients benefited from this program.

He was awarded the KMN in 2001, the DSPM by Penang state which carries the title Dato’ in the year 2005, and the FAMM in 2007. Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed has retired from the Ministry of Health, after having served for 30 years, and is now practicing at Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre, as Consultant Urologist. He is also the Head of Department for the Centre of Excellence of Urology, Men’s Health & Robotic Surgery at the new Prince Court Medical Centre. This Centre hopes to attract Medical Tourism in the Asia Pacific region.

At Prince Court Medical Centre, Dato’ Dr. Sahabudin Raja Mohamed and his team provide all Urological services including advanced subspecialty procedures such as Robotic Radical Prostatectomy, Robotic Assisted Pyeloplasty, and Ureteric Re-implantation. At the Men’s Health and Wellness Centre, they provide a holistic approach to promote active aging and infertility treatment. PCMC is a one-stop centre for the management of all Prostate and Stone disease, and they aspire to provide the highest standard of care.
