What is the Elipse™ Balloon?

The Elipse™ Balloon, which is the first swallowable gastric balloon, requires no surgery, endoscopy, and anesthesia. It is designed to help you reduce your food intake by occupying space in your stomach. This results in an increased feeling of fullness. With the reduction in hunger, you consume lesser during mealtimes, and this leads to weight loss. This process is quite the same as Bariatric, Metabolic & Diabetes Surgery.

The placement of the Elipse™ Balloon, which requires no surgery, endoscopy, or anesthesia, takes approximately 20 minutes.

The deflated balloon will be contained within a capsule that is attached to a thin tube called a catheter. You will be asked to swallow the capsule with water. After you have swallowed the capsule, an X-ray will be used to make sure that the capsule is in the right position. Via the catheter, our doctor will fill up the balloon with liquid. You will have a second X-ray to make sure that the balloon is properly filled. Once this is done, our doctor will complete the placement by gently removing the catheter from the balloon.

After a time span of about 16 weeks, the balloon will empty via the opening of a time-activated release valve. Afterwhich, the balloon will be excreted naturally through the gastrointestinal surgery tract without any need for a removal procedure.
